Interview: THE CLOCKMAKER BY PAROMITA GOSWAMI

1.     How did you get the idea of writing this Paranormal The Clockmaker?

It was Diwali and I visited a saree store to make a purchase. Just opposite the shop was a clock repair shop, small and dingy. It was a stark contrast to the shop where we were sitting.  After my purchase, I settled down to observe the shop outside while my friends continued with their shopping. I saw a man sitting very quietly with a sunken look on his face. Surprisingly it seemed to me, he was surrounded by clocks yet the time was running against him. And that’s how the protagonist of my book, Ashish was inspired. Not very far away sat his son. Young and energetic yet so much bound. A guy his age should be wasting their time elsewhere rather in this shop and that’s how I got the character Vicky for my book.
Now the paranormal part came into my mind when I saw this was the only shop in the neighborhood that bore the deserted look. As if it was cursed in a way. So I weaved a plot around it and The Clockmaker was born.

I see that there are many characters in the blurb of the story. How are so many characters connected to each other?

Ashish, Lata, and Vicky are family while Kavya is Vicky’s love interest. Rashmi is Lata’s childhood friend.

2.     This is a series. How do you plan your series? How many books are in this series.

Actually, the JUNGLE THEME is my series. The Clockmaker is a standalone novel, Book 1 of this series. Jungle and their stories have always fascinated me and that’s how this theme which is a blend of supernatural and occult was born. I have planned ten stories in this series. So let’s see how it shapes up. However, I am very excited about all my stories of the series.

3.     You write children’s books, Paranormal and many others. Which is your favorite genre to write in and why?

Yes, my writing is not genre specific. And hence my readers are also not the same sometimes. A person who enjoys kid’s book doesn’t always enjoy a women fiction or a paranormal. But I had been lucky to have a few who have enjoyed all my writing. And I really consider them my asset. I am so thankful to them. They are the ones who inspire me to go on with my passion and write what my heart wants me to.

So I am not partial towards one genre.

However, women fiction and literary fiction is my forte and I feel more at home there. You will find the genre in all my writings, camouflaged.

4.     What message would you give to all aspiring authors?

Aspiring writers you are the one the world is waiting for. So let your stories out and rock the world.
